The Awards celebrate individuals, organisations, programs, events and activities that have been successful in innovation, education, development, safety and who have significantly improved the outcomes for participants, clients and communities.
The ARA Awards are an important means of recognising the size and diversity of the ABL community and industry whilst providing an opportunity for outdoor individuals and organisations to be rewarded and recognised for their contribution.
This award is for someone who shows all the qualities that make up a great Outdoor adventure recreation instructor i.e.. Enthusiasm, passion, for the outdoors, safety conscious, well organized and has that “Q” factor
Someone who seeks to achieve relevant industry Qualifications and who continuously challenges themselves in their personal development
For any outstanding programme that has demonstrated Quality and innovation and has enabled a greater cognizance of outdoor adventure recreation /experiential learning as a significant dimension of developing personal and social values
This is to award ABL /outdoor adventure recreation centres or any other facility, such as a game lodge or other that has reduced the barriers for participation in outdoor adventure recreation activities or experiences.
Examples may be as diverse as specialised climbing walls or enhancement to facilities to encourage involvement of disabled or other challenged participants.
The outdoor recreation centre must also have a good record of administration of quality in terms of safety, equipment maintenance, visitors experiences, staff development and environmental care.
This award is for an individual or a team who shows all the qualities to design, develop and implement or build facilities that will make a contribution to enhance the standards in the Outdoor and Adventure Recreation Industry
Any person who has made a significant contribution in terms of developing or supporting the outdoor and adventure recreation industry in a specific focus area e.g. development of hiking or biking trails, design and building of ropes courses, new technology, administrative or programme excellence, innovations, etc.
Nomination of individuals or organizations can be done by submitting a summary application by indicating why the individual programme or facility or industry contribution would be worthy of receiving the award in the respective category.

ARA QUALIFICATIONS MODEL
ARA LEVEL 1
Only an introductory course to expose participants or learners to various outdoor recreation activities and to stimulate interest in the outdoor recreation and leisure opportunities. Certificate of attendance only.
ARA LEVEL 11
Facilitator/Leader qualifications will be based on sound theory and practical training and evaluation of activities and safety presentation skills. This is theory and practical based and qualification is based on the ability and listed competencies of the instructor and subject to a detailed and up to date signed off logbook being submitted before achieving the full qualification. Certificate applied for by trainer to ARA and issued by trainer to student after being registered and issued with a certificate code by ARA
ARA LEVEL 111
Instructor qualifications is based on Proof of Evidence Indicated in the ARA logbook issued by ARA and Peer Assessment. Certificate to be issued by ARA only.
( Renewal application every 3 year, with proof of active involvement in the ABL industry)
ARA LEVEL 1V – Specialization field Must hold an ARA Level 111 qualification plus proof of specialization field experience, and/or be a registered ARA trainer and/or further activity specialisation qualifications or exemplar achievement within the industry.
(Qualification does not need to be renewed).
